Group of Monuments at Hampi | The ancient ruins of Hampi, TB dam in Hospet | There are some small hotels in Hampi village, resorts and homestays are surrounding ruins site. I would suggest to stay inside Hampi village to get the essence of ruins | I can’t suggest trip duration to visit capital of ancient Vijayanagara empire, there are hundreds of attractive and mysterious monuments in and around Hampi, it should take minimum 2-3 days to see these structures. It’s paradise for photographer. You can hire a cycle and roam around with your camera, avoid during summer. | |
Group of Monuments at Pattadakal | The ancient caves and monuments in Badami, the Durga Temple and other monuments at Aihole, Group of Monuments at Pattadakal | There are some hotels in Badami and Aihole, my recommendation: The Heritage Resort-Badami or KSTDC Hotel Mayura Yatri Nivas - Aihole | Suggest for minimum 2N-3D trip, be careful if you climb Badami hills and ancient caves, avoid during summer | |

Mountain Railways of India | The railway routes pass through many mountains, rivers, waterfalls, plantations and artistic landscapes and localities. Siliguri to Darjeeling, Ooty to Mettupalayam, Kalka to Simla | - | Three unique railway routes come under UNESCO World Heritage in India. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway was the first, the second one is Nilgiri Mountain Railway and third one is The Kalka Shimla Railway. All three railways are still fully operational. These railway routes go through beautiful mountain landscape. I have experienced the journey though Darjeeling Himalayan and Nilgiri Mountain Railways only. The Mountain Railways of India are outstanding examples of the interchange of values on developments in technology, and the impact of an innovative transportation system. |
